How to avoid the living for the weekend epidemic that has hit our modern, frantic way of living:

  • Rest Daily. 😴
  • Sabbath Weekly. 💤📚🚴‍♂️
  • Retreat Quarterly. 🌴✈️

The 💡 here is to create the life that you don’t need a vacation from.

Let’s break it down a bit more…

Rest Daily 😴

Rest is prioritizing healthy sleep cycles and physical rest.

Daily rest isn’t about kicking up your heels and vegging-out at the end of the day. According to ancient Jewish philosophy, the day doesn’t begin with the sunrise, it begins with the sunset 🌇.

A good night’s rest is not the reward for a hard day’s work!

A good night’s rest is the fuel-up for the day ahead.

You begin your day when your head hits the pillow and start your day with rest. Then you wake up fully rested and ready for the rest of your day.

Sabbath Weekly 💤📚🚴‍♂️

Sabbath is about prioritizing your Spiritual need to recognize you aren’t invincible, you aren’t a god. It’s a surrender, of sorts, but in a good way.

According to ancient Jewish and Christian Scriptures, Sabbath is the act of taking a 24-hour period away from work to trust God when we feel we should be productive.

It’s not about a law in a faith system, it’s about how humans were designed.

We were designed to take time for enjoyment, hobbies, and focus outside of work. It’s modeled in the creation account in Genesis and in the life of Jesus.

Retreat Quarterly 🌴✈️

Retreat is about regular resets to help you continually refocus and reprioritize.

The band Owl City gets it! In their recent single Vitamin Sea, they illustrate our need to retreat for rest

‘Cause when I get kinda salty, I need some Vitamin Sea
Yeah, I gotta go now, ‘cause I’m a little worn down
And I’m a little burned out and I need a vacation

But it’s not a constant need for a vacation… It’s just a few times a year to refocus and recharge for longer periods of time.

So, if you’ve found yourself in constant need of a vacation🌴, it’s time to be more intentional about your rhythms, particularly around rest, relationships, and even hobbies!
